“Don’t do this Izzy!” Jess’ voice caught up with me from below.

I could hear other voices too. Some guys were cheering for Tom and some people were just plain scared. I, on the other, steadily faced my opponent, standing two floors above the ground, on the roof of local tourist office, which was closed for Sunday. Tom was smartly smirking at me. He thought I wouldn’t dare to step away from the safe corner where the edges of the roof made up a little platform.  He was steadily standing on another such platform across from me on the right.

“Are you ready Perkins?!” I shouted across to him.

“Bring it on Meyers!” He laughed. Since we were on enemy terms first names weren’t used.

Over the noise I heard Jess’ voice again:

“Izzy, get down from there, you don’t need to prove anything!”

“Will you stop worrying?!” I hoped she heard me.

“On three!” Karl screamed for both of us to hear. He was a judge in this dare.

We both nodded to show that we heard him.

“One…” I stood up straight.

“…Two...” My eyes were measuring the distance from start to finish.

“…Three!” I took my first steady steps towards the end of the ledge. The distance forward wasn’t too long and the way down didn’t scare me. That lack of fear, doctors found I had, when I was two comes in handy a lot. I saw Tom taking small, slow steps, all his confidence gone. He was always just talk.

I was nearly there when Tom, not even half way down the ledge stepped away to the safety of solid, flat roof.

Okay, I give up! Don’t be a freak and come down Meyers, you won.” He was as pale as a sheet and panting wildly.

“Oh, this isn’t bad at all…” I stood, balancing my weight on one leg now, and enjoyed the silence, which was generated by this. Everyone took a huge deep breath, they were scared that one wrong sound the made would result in me falling down. Their eyes and minds were fixed on me. I laughed as I saw that tom was nearly fainting.

“Izzy, this isn’t funny!”

“Okay, okay Perkins… No need to ruin the fun…” I started casually walking towards my finish destination, the east corner of the flat roof we were all on.

But then something happened. I just felt like all life has been drained from me. I felt as my limbs went numb. I wasn’t in control anymore. I was only few steps away from the corner, so I tried to stumble towards it, but my last little bit of strength wasn’t enough. I felt I was falling and it wasn’t in slow motion, like in movies, it just seemed like I was aware of it even before it started happening, I just couldn’t do anything to prevent it.

But someone else could. And did. I felt a tight cool grip around my wrist. I didn’t know whose hand was that, but I seemed to know that it wont let go. There was something about that grip that made it seem so strong. Strong enough to crush my bones into dust (stupid, I know). But it didn’t. Instead that hand pulled me up (yes, only ONE hand) to show me the most glorious looking face on the planet.

Blue silvery eyes, bunch of blonde, wind-swept hair, perfectly curved lips, straight nose and really pale skin and not sick kind of pale, no it was nearly white as marble, but it seemed so natural and nearly glowing from within. And then there was a voice:

“Are you insane?! What were you up to? Roof climbing?” He was obviously deeply stirred by our little game because that was what I heard when he pulled me back to the safety of the roof.

“Thanks for saving me, I’m okay.” I was talking in a dull voice. Yes, he was so gorgeous he sent shavers down my spine but for that face he had a wrong attitude because with me, even with that face and an amazing, muscular bodice he still couldn’t pull it off. “And a tourist wouldn’t understand, what we are up to. It’s a local thing.”

He started laughing at me. I felt my anger rising: what does that guy think he is?! Between the laughter he managed to say few things:

“A tourist?! Girl, I was living here for over a year!”

Okay. Stop. Pause this. This guy was living here for over a year and I didn’t spot him? Nah-uh, I don’t think so.

Then Tom and Karl finally managed to get some attention and I saw few people from the crowd hurrying up.

“Oh my God, Izzy, are you okay?” they were both totally freaked out.

“Yeah, yeah, I’m grand.” What does a girl have to do to have a conversation here?!

“Not thanks to yourself…” The blonde one was quick to interrupt.

“Will you stop lecturing me?! I have a dad for that. Anyway how come I haven’t seen you around before if you are supposedly living here for a year?”

“Ever heard of home schooling?”

“Duh! I wasn’t born yesterday! So your folks keep you locked up as well, or you just choose to have no social life?”

“Who said I don’t have a social life? Maybe yours isn’t active enough so you didn’t spot me, and anyway, this place is pretty boring to hang out.”

“Only when you have no friends.” I knew I was being mean but I just couldn’t help it, he was so annoying!

Jess was the first one to make it to the roof and was hurrying towards we when that blonde brat spoke again:

“No, for a matter of fact, I do have friends and as you probably observed they aren’t around which just shows that I have taste.”

Okay, this guy is in deep trouble, neck deep. But Jess got to me first and that granted him few more minutes with his limbs intact.

“Oh, God, Izzy, are you all right? What happened?”

“Yes, I’m grand, all intact.” And then all my anger got washed away. I’m alive now, with no broken bones because of this guy, I owe him my life I should be thanking him for what he has done and not thinking of ways to beat the crap out of him.

“Thanks to him.” I smiled looking at his blue eyes and he didn’t seem angry with me, or annoyed. Actually for the first time in my life I couldn’t read emotions in another person’s eyes.

I struggled out of Jessica’s hug seeing more people almost on the roof by now, and walked up to him.

“Listen, I probably didn’t make it too obvious but thank you so much. I would probably lie down there with a bunch of broken bones and maybe even dead.” I fell silent at that, the though of it suddenly became so real. “Thank you so much. I owe you my life.”

He smiled; oh what a smile was that! Revealing a row of perfectly shaped white shiny teeth.

“I will remember that for the next, -”

“Gabriel, weren’t we in a hurry?” a slender girl, with raven black hair, big clever green eyes and luminous skin, interrupted him. Her voice was even smoother and silkier, than my blonde saviour’s. It seemed like she sang the words out.

“Does Antonio ring a bell?” She continued.

“Oh, yes, we must hurry on. Nice meeting you Izzy, don’t throw yourself off a cliff before our next meeting.” He turned around and walked away. His steps just as the girl’s who called him were light and swift. They seemed to be dancing away. In the next moments I was engulfed in a huge hug as my friends finally reached the roof of the Tourist Office, but all that noise seemed to be muted to me. In my head I could clearly hear one word: Gabriel.

Ooh, I like this :) Tis very interesting. I liked Twilight, and though I've only seen the film of Blood&Chocolate, it was very good and I really want to read the book, so I should like this.
Who wrote the Unconditional and Guardian you mentioned in the comments?
Anyway, great stuff, I can't wait to read more!
